Overview

We have an immediate need for a Principal Environmental Engineer to support our client sites in Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland.  The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer with at least 10 years’ experience performing site investigation and remediation work and will have an established client base.  The position will operate out of the Rockville, MD office.  

Responsibilities

Position responsibilities include the following:

  • Field work will be limited but may include drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, excavation oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, vapor intrusion and soil gas surveys
  • Office work includes, but is not limited to: subcontractor coordination; report writing; summarizing data in tables and figures; cost estimation; permit applications; environmental remediation design tasks, including soil and groundwater remedial systems; remedial system performance optimization and evaluation; and other duties related to active remedial projects
  • Perform project management including proposal preparation, reporting and billing
  • Lead the development of CERCLA Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Proposed Plans, Records of Decisions, and Remedial Designs and/or their RCRA or State equivalent; this includes the coordination of teams for figure generation, data management, work plans, and/or other required supporting documents
  • Lead environmental investigations and remediation projects to include directing the day-to-day activities of junior level staff; schedule and coordinate task resources, and solicit guidance from other senior level technical staff
  • Evaluate data to (1) support conceptual site models for environmental investigations, (2) delineate the nature and extent of contamination, and (3) modify and optimize post-remedy long-term-monitoring program
  • Supervise pilot testing and remediation system design work (SVE, air sparge, MPE, etc.)
  • Mentor and train junior staff
  • Market and develop new clients
  • Other duties, as needed

Qualifications

  • BS in Environmental Engineering or related major
  • Professional Engineering License in MD, VA, PA or NJ
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the environmental investigation and remediation industry
  • Experience working in site remediation in New Jersey under the LSRP program or Pennsylvania under the PADEP Act 2 preferred
  • Previous experience with subcontractor procurement and management (e.g., preparation of request for bids, preparation of scope of work, ensure work is completed in accordance with scope of work and H&S requirements)
  • Experience with permitting a plus
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER is also a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of PADEP, DNREC or NJDEB environmental regulations
  • Working familiarity with CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, or State level regulated remediation (e.g., State Voluntary Remediation Programs)
  • Ability to travel and perform limited field work
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to balance a diverse and changing workload
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, hardworking, and have strong written and technical skills
